Tigers Bounce Back Against Seattle, Force Game 5
The Tigers bounced back in a big way against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night, scoring nine runs on thirteen hits in a 9-3 victory, forcing a Game 5 in Seattle on Friday.
The offensive explosion was led by a string of fifth-inning doubles by catcher Dillon Dingler and Jahmai Jones, and a single by All-Star shortstop Javier Baez to tie the game at 3.
The Tigers continued to hit the ball hard, adding four runs on two home runs in the sixth by outfielder Riley Greene and Javier Baez, and finished the game with three home runs after a seventh-inning shot from second baseman Gleyber Torres.
The Tigers will face the Mariners in Seattle on Friday at 4:40 p.m. Eastern, with Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal set to take the mound. You can see a preview of the game here.
Grand Rapids Firm Acrisure to Cut 400 Jobs
Global insurance brokerage and financial services and technology company based in Grand Rapids, Acrisure, plans to lay off 400 employees in the first quarter of 2026, the company announced.
The company announced the layoffs in wake of artificial intelligence technology developed by Acrisure that will replace the work done by accounting employees at the firm.
Two hundred of the four hundred jobs to be cut by Acrisure are based in Grand Rapids. You can read more on the planned cuts here.
Governor Whitmer Signs Bill Eliminating Taxes on Tips, Social Security, and Overtime
Governor Gretchen Whitmer celebrated the signing of a bill that eliminates taxes on tips, social security, and overtime at Mom's Restaurant on Fort Street in Trenton on Wednesday morning.
The bill was part of a slew of bills tied to the state budget that Whitmer signed on Tuesday, and is projected to save up to 400,000 Michiganders up to $400 annually in taxes on tips.
The measure comes following federal provisions in President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” that allows workers to deduct up to $25,000 in taxable income from tips or overtime compensation. You can read more on what the bill does here.
