Michigan Ranked 24th Safest State

A new survey from WalletHub ranked Michigan the 24th-safest state in the country, according to criteria including assaults per capita, financial losses from disasters per resident, and economic factors like unemployment.

Michigan’s best attribute, according to the survey, was workplace safety at 15th. Michigan’s worst attribute was personal and residential safety, ranked the sixth-worst in the country.

Michigan’s total score was 53.53, placing it just above North Dakota and Oregon. You can view the full rankings here.

Oakland University Student Under Investigation For GOP Threat

An Oakland University student is under investigation for reportedly publishing a social media post that called for the execution of GOP congressional candidate Mike Steger.

The investigation followed Oakland County GOP Chair Vance Patrick’s called for the immediate expulsion of the student, who asked, “can we execute these two things,” referring to a photo of a man wearing a Trump sweatshirt and Steger.

Steger is running to win Michigan's 11th Congressional District seat in 2026. Oakland University released a statement that law enforcement is actively investigating the post. You can read more on the story here.

Two Michigan Universities Among Top In World

The University of Michigan and Michigan State University were ranked among the top universities in the world, according to Times Higher Education’s world university rankings, released on October 9th.

The University of Michigan was ranked No. 23 of over 2,100 schools globally, and ranked No. 14 in the United States. Michigan State was ranked No. 105 globally, and ranked No. 15 for educational studies.

Multiple Michigan universities did not make this year’s list that made previous lists, including Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Northern Michigan, and more. You can see the full list here.
