Six Michigan Players Take Home Gold For Team USA

Six players from the Great Lakes State helped Team USA Hockey win gold in their 2-1 overtime victory over Canada on Sunday.

All four players who were on the ice for Team USA in overtime were from Michigan, including Plymouth’s own Jack Hughes who scored the game-winning goal, two UM alumni in Zach Werenski and Dylan Larkin, and goalie Connor Hellebuyck from Commerce.

Team USA’s victory on Sunday is the first gold medal for the States since the “Miracle” win in 1980.

High School Graduation Rate Reaches Historic High

New data from the state’s department of education revealed Michigan’s four-year graduation rate reached 84%, the state’s highest rate since 2008.

The four-year rate is up 1.2 points from 82.8% last year, led by Detroit Public Schools Community District also seeing its highest graduation rate since 2008.

Michigan’s four-year graduation rate increased for 14 of 17 student groups, according to the state.

Highest Earning Counties in Michigan Ranked

Livingston County was ranked Michigan’s highest-earning county according to new income data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The county’s median income of $103,039 was 42% higher than the state’s overall median income of $72,875, and 6% higher than Oakland County’s second-highest income of $97,760.

The top five earning counties in the state were Livingston, Leelanau, Oakland, Ottawa, and Washtenaw.
