Centennial Park Opens in Downtown Detroit

The new 22-acre Ralph C. Wilson Centennial Park officially opened this weekend in Downtown Detroit, marking the completion of an eight-year, $56 million project.

The park brings Detroiters a variety of options including quiet walking spaces, NBA-sized basketball courts, play gardens, a water garden, and event spaces.

The opening celebration featured speakers and 35 food trucks. The park will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. You can see video of the park, and find more details here.

Ann Arbor Ranked No. 2 College Town in America

A new study from WalletHub ranked the University of Michigan’s hometown the second-best college town in the country.

The study ranked towns based on several criteria, including wallet friendliness, social environment, and academic and economic opportunities. Ann Arbor’s total score was 62.22, placing only behind Austin, Texas at 64.54.

Ann Arbor was the only town in Michigan to make the list of college towns. You can see the full rankings here.

Eastpointe Man Arrested for Threatening Elementary School

A 43-year-old man from Eastpointe was arrested after making national headlines for allegedly threatening to shoot up his child’s elementary school following a snack dispute with a teacher.

David Scott Jr. was arrested after threatening to “air the place out,” after a teacher canceled snack time after recess.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s office announced Scott had multiple rounds of ammunition in his home, and was a habitual offender. You can read the prosecutor’s full press release here.
