USA Today Acquires The Detroit News

The Detroit News was acquired by USA Today, Inc., who also co-owns the Detroit Free Press, the company announced on Monday.

The acquisition ends a nearly 40-year agreement that allowed both newspapers to operate separately in the city.

In a statement from USA Today, the company stated the two publications will continue to publish separately, but did not provide any further information.

Halfway Through Winter, Michigan Snowfall and Cold Worse Than Normal

No, it’s not just you. The halfway point of winter has passed, and this season has been colder and snowier than average.

Michigan’s average temperature through this point of winter historically sits at 25 degrees. This year? The Mitten averaged 15 degrees.

The state has also seen above-average snowfall. Michigan’s snowfall at this point is 22.5 inches on average, but the state has seen 33.2 inches so far this winter, nearly 10 inches above average.

Troy Company Inks $100 Million Deal

Ther private equity firm SARGAD has partnered with the government of Telangana, a state in India, to invest $100 million in developing India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem.

The Troy-based firm will selectively invest in high-precision mechanical and electronics components and software, and supporting the needs of aircraft manufacturers in collaboration with Telangana.

The deal was announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. You can read more on the deal here.
