Supreme Court Hears Illegal Immigrant Workers’ Compensation Case

The Michigan Supreme Court heard oral arguments from The Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, which is suing Governor Gretchen Whitmer over her policy that denied worker’s compensation to illegal immigrants injured on the job.

The “Immigrant Rights” organization is suing Gov. Whitmer based on harms caused to the organization by the policy, not the individual illegal immigrants. Governor Whitmer’s lawyers argued the case should be dismissed, citing a state law that requires actions be brought within one year of the occurence of any harm.

A ruling is expected to be made in the coming months. You can read more on the case here.
