Arctic Air Hits Michigan

A blast of Arctic air is set to hit the entire state of Michigan this weekend, with wind chills reaching as low as 48 degrees below zero in parts of the state.

The Arctic air system moves into Michigan this morning, with the U.P. seeing the lowest wind chill figures of up to 48 below zero, with the rest of the lower peninsula projected to see wind chills between 20-25 below.

The dangerously-low wind chill figures are expected to last statewide through Monday morning, with authorities warning residents to stay inside to avoid the potential for frostbite and hypothermia.

You can see a statewide forecast for today’s wind chills here.

Cell Phone Ban Heads to Whitmer’s Desk

A bill that would ban cell phones in K-12 schools passed the Michigan Senate 34-1 on Thursday, and now heads to Governor Whitmer’s desk for signage.

Whitmer is expected to sign the bill into law, as the governor has signaled support for the measure in the past and the bill passed both chambers with a “veto-proof” majority.

If signed, the bill would go into effect this fall for the 2026-2027 school year. You can read the full bill text here.

DOJ Sues Michigan Over Egg Law

The Trump Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a lawsuit on Thursday to sue the state of Michigan over a law that bans the sale of eggs from caged hens.

The DOJ claims the law, passed in 2019 by a Republican legislature, has raised prices on consumers, and claims the federal government has the sole perogative to “regulate the quality and inspection of eggs in interstate commerce.”

The state of Michigan has not yet responded to the DOJ’s suit. You can read more on the filing here.
